Community's help with basketball program appreciated

Posted: Monday, March 28, 2005

The Boys and Girls Club's 7th/8th Grade Basketball League recently concluded its season. Boys and girls from throughout the central peninsula area had the opportunity to be part of a team, improve their basketball skills, get a little exercise and socialize with friends.

Hats off to the many people involved in making the season run smoothly — all those who helped keep score, time and stats during games; the encouraging fans; Kenai Middle School; Kenai Central High School and the Kenai Recreation Center for the use of their gyms; and the hardworking referees for providing a safe, positive environment for the kids to play in. Special thanks to Ken Roser, Doug Jung and Dan Lynch for their part in the program.

The Boys and Girls Club is especially grateful to those who "made" time in their busy lives to coach. Without their willingness to volunteer their time, there would not be a basketball program! The Boys and Girls Club salutes these awesome individuals: Shanette Wik, Terry James, Janine Carlough, Steve Kiefer, Teresa Saner, Michael Creighton, Ronnie Rainey, Dustyn Baier, Darryl Byerley, Matt Medina, Brennen Jackson, Leonard Ball, Andrew Smith, Doug Munn, Kevin Stalker, Velvet Heffner, Brent Senette, Steve Stenga, Dan Duke, Diane Duncan, Molly Hull, Craig Jung, Becky Samson, Dabre Newcomb, Doug Hallmark, Charlie Stephens and Chris Kennedy. Thanks for giving these kids an opportunity to play.

Also, the Boys and Girls Club greatly appreciates the generosity of the individuals and businesses who gave their financial support by sponsoring a team: James Julien, DDS; Robert Bauder, DMD; River City Dental; Heat and Frost Insulation; Agrium; ConocoPhillips; BP; Tesoro; and Bennetts.

Thanks for helping to ensure the continuation of our program.
