'Plant a row for the hungry' campaign begins

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is seeking interested community gardeners to help in the Plant a Row for the Hungry campaign. Area gardeners are asked to plant an extra row in their gardens or window boxes this season. Then, at harvest time, donate surplus produce or flowers to the food bank.

The Plant a Row for the Hungry is a nationwide program that got its roots in Alaska. Thousands of gardeners participated last year bringing in much-needed fresh produce to their area food banks. Gardners living in the Homer or Anchor Point area can contribute to the Homer Food Pantry. For more information, call Linda Swarner at 262-3111.
