Public Health plans 1-day closure

The Kenai Public Health Center will be closed Monday to observe Seward's Day. It will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Canine Good Citizen class set

PenDOG will host begin a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Class at 7 p.m. Thursday at its facility. The class will be seven weeks long with the final class being the test. The test will begin at 11 a.m. May 16 at PenDOG.

The class is designed to prepare students and their dogs to take the AKC CGC test. A dog should be able to perform basic obedience commands to attend the class. The class is open to all breeds and mixes of dogs.

The class is not required to take the test May 16. For more information, call 262-6846.

Hazard tree removal offered

The Kenai Peninsula Borough is offering a free right of way hazard tree removal project to all borough landowners with beetle killed spruce tree with in 100 feet of a state- or borough-maintained road. Work request forms are available at the Kenai Peninsula Spruce Bark Beetle office at 253 Wilson Lane in Soldotna.

Assistive Technology available

The Kenai Peninsula Independent Living Center has developed a demo center that displays different Assistive technology (magnifiers, screen-enlarging software and amplification systems) and other devices to enhance communication and/or low vision skills at its site in Soldotna.

Its goal is to give individuals with disabilities the opportunity to try out different technology in order to live more independently in their homes and communities. Also to offer tips and resources for matching clothes, identifying money or locating the temperature on the stove.

Kids' activities sought

The Clarion is seeking information for its annual Just Kidding section with listings of summer events for youth. Organizations, businesses, individuals or churches planning summer events open to area youth May 18 through Aug. 18 may submit activities.

Information needed: Name or group or organization; age of youth who may attend; time of activity; date of activity and deadline for registration; place activity will be held including address; cost of activity and/or fees; contact name and phone number for people to call; e-mail address (optional); Web address (optional); and a brief description of activity.

Deadline to submit information is April 30.
