ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Shoppers at Carrs, Eagle and Alaska Safeway stores can earn Alaska Airlines frequent-flier miles when they use their Safeway Club card effective immediately.

For every $250 in eligible purchases through Dec. 31, customers who also are members of the Alaska Air mileage plan will earn 125 bonus miles, said Cherie Myers, a spokeswoman for Safeway Inc.

There is no limit on how many miles can be earned under the program, she said.

Purchases not covered under the mileage plan include alcohol, tobacco, postage stamps, lottery tickets, Carrs Tix, container deposits, gift certificate purchases, commuter passes, money orders and the portion of pharmacy prescriptions not paid for by the customer, Myers said.
