Sen. Drue Pearce loses bid for one federal job; in line for others

Posted: Friday, March 30, 2001

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- State Senator Drue Pearce has been passed over for a spot on the federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Anchorage Republican was on the Bush administration's short list for two open seats on the panel, but the White House decided to appoint one person from Texas and another from Pennsylvania.

Pearce said a White House official told her Tuesday those people had more regulatory experience. She also said the White House now is considering her for jobs with the Department of Energy or the Interior Department.

''Both of which have some interesting positions that have a lot of impact on Alaska and all Alaskans in our daily lives,'' she told Anchorage television station KTUU. ''Id be interested in looking at any of those.''

Pearce said she plans more talks with the White House over the next few weeks.
