FAIRBANKS (AP) -- An 18-year-old woman is accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the back during an argument, then trying to stitch up the wound.

Bonnie Thumma is charged with first-degree assault in connection with the attack on 20-year-old Jack Nelms early Thursday at a Fairbanks apartment.

Fairbanks Police said an ambulance was called to the apartment after Nelms started having breathing problems. Police said officers initially were told that someone else stabbed Nelms, who suffered a punctured lung.

Following an investigation, Thumma was arrested and charged. Police said she apparently stitched up the wound but because Nelms was having a hard time breathing, decided to call an ambulance.

Nelms is expected to survive.
