Young to speak at chamber

Congressman Don Young will be the featured speaker at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon at noon today at Paradisos Restaurant. The cost is $12 inclusive. For more information, call 283-7989.

Crafters, artists sought

Kenai Senior Connections will open a gift shop at Kenai Landing in May and is seeking area artists and crafters interested in selling their items.

Applications are available at Odie's Bead-It shop in the Peninsula Center Mall, the Soldotna Public Library or the Kenai Senior Citizens Center.

Applications and craft samples may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the Kenai senior center. Applicants also may call to make an appointment. For more information, call Shirley Lennox-Hillyer at 283-4156.

Help for home day care providers

The LeeShore Center, formerly the Women's Resource and Crisis Center, is a sponsor in the USDA child and adult care food program that is administered by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.

The same meals will be made available to enrolled children in each of its sponsored child care homes, and it will be provided at no charge without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. For more information or to enroll, call Jennette at 283-4707.

Spring bazaar set

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will hold its annual spring bazaar and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Tables are available for rent. For more information, call 776-7654.

Community dialogue meeting slated

The Center for Mediation and Community Dialogue will hold its First Friday Dialogue meeting at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Kenai Peninsula College commons. The topic will be coping when loved ones are serving in harm's way. A potluck dinner will precede the meeting at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The purpose of the First Friday Dialogues is to bring people in the community together in a safe forum for listening, speaking and learning. For more information, call Chris Gehrett at 262-0367.

Little League registration continues

Marriage seminar planned

The Nikiski Nazarene Church will host a marriage seminar in conjunction with Marriage Savers titled "Honoring Marriage" at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium. Featured speakers will be Michael McManus, the national director of Marriage Savers, Lt. Gov. Loren Leman and other state and area leaders. Area pastors will sign a community marriage covenant. Donations for tsunami relief sought

Operation Christmas Child is collecting gift-filled shoe boxes for a Easter drive through Monday. Suggested items are shirts, small toys, hardy candy, soap (enclosed in a plastic bag), washcloths, toothbrush, toothpaste and school supplies.

Boxes should be labeled for a boy or girl, ages 2 to 4, 5 to 9 or 10 to 14. Include a $5 check to cover shipping and handling in an envelope with your, name, address and telephone number. The Kenai Peninsula Pop Warner football and cheerleading registration will be from noon to 4 p.m. April 9 and 16 at the Kenai and Soldotna Safeway stores.
