ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The Coast Guard is investigating the death of a 39-year-old Juneau fisherman whose body was found near Elfin Cove in Southeast Alaska.

It's unclear what led to the death of Jamie F. Coby, the Coast Guard said. Coby's body was found Thursday in the water near George Island, about 70 miles west of Juneau.

A search for Coby began after a fisherman aboard the Erin K notified authorities that Coby's boat was beached on the island. A crewman from the Erin K searched Coby's boat, the Dustin C, and found no one aboard.

The Erin K crew told the Coast Guard they saw Coby aboard the Dustin C about an hour earlier that morning. He was wearing a sweat suit but no life jacket or personal flotation device.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Sitka found Coby's body.

Rescue workers performed CPR on Coby during the flight to Sitka. He was pronounced dead at Mount Edgecumbe Hospital.

The Coast Guard Marine Safety office is investigating Coby's death. Petty Officer Darrell Wilson said Coby was the only person aboard his boat.
