Posted: Sunday, March 31, 2002

The Kenai Kings (over 35) Hockey Team defeated a group of seniors from area high schools Friday Night at the Soldotna Sports Center in a benefit game.

The Kings took an early lead and, with the sterling goaltending of Jesse Tubbs, held on for the 6-5 victory.

The night was a chance to honor the seniors and give out four scholarships.

From Skyview, the Kings, along with the Soldotna Sports Center, gave Randy Berg a $500 scholarship. From Kenai, Doors & Windows and the Kings gave Brian Gabriel Jr. a $500 scholarship.

Soldotna's David Newby also got a $500 scholarship from the Kings and G & S Construction. Finally, the Kings and KSRM awarded Nikiski's Todd Brigham a $500 scholarship.

The scholarships were awarded on the basis of athletics, academics and attitude.

The Kings hope to make the benefit game an annual event.
