Still some steps to take before school district contracts settled

Posted: Monday, March 31, 2003

During the past few weeks, many people have said to me, "You must be relieved that your contract is settled!"

I explained to them that we have a tentative agreement with the school board. Both employee groups must still ratify their separate agreements, then the results must be certified by the building representatives and the executive boards.

I am confident that will happen soon.

Then the school board must vote to ratify the agreement. Both unions have been told that this vote will take place at a special meeting, tentatively scheduled for April 11.

I strongly encourage you to contact at least one school board member by phone, letter or e-mail to let them know you want to see the contract ratified! If it is not ratified, then the whole negotiation process starts over.

I believe the education employees of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District deserve to have an improved contract now. Please tell the school board how you feel!

Henry Anderson, Kenai
