KBEA - The Kenai Borough Employees Association scholarship committee is accepting applications for three scholarships of $500 each. Scholarships are available for all 2004 graduates of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, including public, private and home-schooled students. Applications and instructions are available from the schools' guidance counselors, at the information desk of the Borough Building in Soldotna or at www.borough.kenai.ak.us. Applications can be mailed or dropped off at the Kenai Peninsula Borough at 144 North Binkley St., Soldotna, AK 99669. Applications must be delivered or postmarked by today.
DKG The Delta Kappa Gamma-Omicron Chapter is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a woman from the south peninsula. Candidates must be undergraduates with at least two years of college experience working toward a degree in education, must attend an accredited college or university in Alaska and must show proof of current residency on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. Interested candidates will need to submit the following information: compiled transcripts, a letter of recommendation, a resume of current personal information, proof of residency on the Kenai Peninsula, a brief statement of financial need and a short paragraph stating plans after obtaining degree. Submit information to Lyn Maslow, Box 468, Homer, AK 99603 by April 15.
Sonoma Florist George and Tammy Backus, owners of Sonoma Florist in Soldotna, have established an art scholarship for each of the four central peninsula high schools. Graduating seniors from Nikiski, Kenai, Soldotna and Skyview high schools who have been accepted to a college of their choice and have shown a high grade point average in art classes are eligible to apply. For more information, call your school's counselor or Sonoma Florist in Soldotna. Applications must be postmarked by April 16.
Labor Council The Kenai Peninsula Central Labor Council will offer scholarships to Kenai Peninsula graduating seniors or home-school students. To be eligible, students must be graduating in the 2004 school year, be a member of a union family, be attending an accredited school, have financial need and be able to show an improved grade history. Applications can be obtained at school counselors' offices. The deadline for applications is April 30.
