Drama production set to entertain

The Soldotna High School drama department will present the comedy “Sarah Sydney takes Hollywood by Storm” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $5 for students and adults and $2 for children age 12 and under.

Environmental contest semi-finalists named

The 12 semi-finalists entries for the Caring of the Kenai environmental and disaster preparedness awareness contest will be on display Saturday at Gottschalks in Soldotna. The semi-finalists were chosen out of more than 400 entries.

Caucus meeting set

The Democrat District 33 and 24 will hold a caucus meeting from 10 a.m. to noon April 8 in Room 101B at the Kenai Peninsula College. For more information, call Blake Johnson at 776-5212 or Sharon at 262-6298.

Community concert scheduled

The Performing Arts Society will host Mari Hahn, soprano, and Dean Epperson on piano in a concert of vocal music for spring at 7:30 p.m. April 8 at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. The concert will feature music by Mendelssohn, Liszt, Schubert, Quilter and Richard Rodgers.

Hahn is head of the voice division at the University of Alaska Anchorage and appeared in opera performances around the country. Epperson is from the Kenai Peninsula, studied piano at Peabody Conservatory and returned to Alaska to teach and perform.

Skits, talent show slated

Nikiski drama, debate and forensics team will perform skits for its show “Encore, Encore” at 7 p.m. April 8 at the Nikiski Middle-High School Auditorium. The cost is $5 at the door. A talent show also will be held at 7 p.m. April 22 at the school. Participants will compete for prizes. The cost is $5 at the door.

Domestic violence workshop planned

The LeeShore Center will hold a community awareness workshop on domestic violence and sexual assault from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 10 through 14 at the center.

The topics will be domestic violence, sexual assault, the effects of domestic violence on children, the centers batterer’s intervention program and volunteering with shelter clients.

Continuing education credit may be attained after completion of the workshop and 30 hours of volunteer work with the center. It is open to the public. Participants may attend a portion or the entire workshop. For more information, call 283-9479.

Bake sale, bazaar scheduled

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will host its annual trash and treasure sale form 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22. Tables are available for rent. The cost is $10. For more information or to reserve a table, call 262-2333.
