Health center plans closure, training

The Kenai Public Health Center will be closed today.

The nurses will be training Tuesday through Thursday.

The Immunization clinics in Kenai on Wednesday and in Soldotna on Thursday will be canceled.

Yamada fundraiser moves in to Kenai Moose Lodge

A spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings and an auction fundraiser to benefit Marcus Yamada will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge in Kenai. Yamada is in the Seattle Children's Hospital undergoing treatment for promyeloytic leukemia.

A tax-deductible account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank through Bridges Community Resource Network, Inc.

Donations are being accepted for auction items, by calling Jenny McGrady at 394-3452, Kenny Yamada at 335-4180 or Bill Neiderhauser at 283-3495.

Community members wanting to send a message to Yamada, sign a guest book or get updates on his condition may visit www.caringbridge.com, using marcusyamada for the site name.

Domestic violence, sexual assault workshop available

The LeeShore Center will hold a domestic violence and sexual assault community awareness workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through April 11. The topics will be domestic violence, sexual assault, effects of domestic violence on children, the center's batterer's intervention program and volunteering with shelter clients.

It is open to the public. Participants may attend all or a portion of the workshop. Continuing education credits may be earned after completion of the workshop and 30 hours of volunteer work with the center.

Soccer registration continues

The Boys and Girls Club outdoor soccer registration runs through April 25. Outdoor soccer is for youth ages 4 to high school. Participants must be current Boys and Girls Club members. Cost is $60 for seventh grade and up and $50 for sixth grade and under. Registration is available in person at 227 Caviar St. Kenai or by fax to 283-4675.

Library seeks volunteers

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library are looking for persons interested in helping with fundraising efforts for the approved library expansion.

Training will be provided prior to any activity.

Social Security information available

The Social Security Administration representatives are available via video conferences at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center at the following times.

* April from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 2 and 16;

* May from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7 and 21;

* June from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 4 and 18.

Resource directory available

The LeeShore Center's community directory of central Kenai Peninsula resources is available for $25 with a three-ring binder or $15 for refill pages only. The directory lists more than 80 pages of information on emergency services, family support agencies, health facilities, senior citizens services and veteran's organizations.
