Nikiski resident Tyler Morrison, a kindergartener at Nikiski North Star Elementary, had his head shaved and raised $265 at the recent St. Baldricks event held on St. Patrick's Day. Tyler raised money for the foundation which raises awareness and funds to cure children's cancer. His mother, Chrissy, said he wanted to participate for the children and he loved the experience.

Music teacher Rose Pilati has been leading the Nikiski North Star fourth- and fifth-graders in song and dance while practicing for the upcoming performance of "High School Musical" on April 15 at the Nikiski High School auditorium. The group has been working hard to bring the Disney Channel favorite to life for the community.

The Weight Watchers Program's final group meeting will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Nikiski North Star Elementary. For more information about becoming a group leader or attending a meeting, call Sharon at 262- 7543.

A game night will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Nikiski Senior Center. For more information, call 776-7654.

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will hold a spring bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Various goods will be available, including jewelry, beauty products, quilts, baked goods and locally grown mushrooms. Table space is $15 per day or three days for $30. The Point of Hope ministries in Nikiski will host its fifth-annual Kenai Peninsula Women's Retreat at Solid Rock Bible Camp, Thursday through Saturday. The theme is "Holy Spirit Encounter - Three Sheets to the Wind." The main speaker will be Nikiski resident Nancy Haney, along with nine additional workshop speakers. The Redoubt Church will feature bluegrass gospel music after 6:30 p.m. Sundays. Everyone interested is encouraged to bring their instruments and voices.

The Nikiski Fire Service Area Board of Directors will meet at 7:30 p.m. April 9 at Nikiski Fire Station No. 1. The meeting is open to the public.

Loops have a boy

Toni and Casey Loop of Nikiski announce the birth of their son, Matthew Thomas, at 11:24 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Woman's Way Midwifery in Soldotna. He weighed 9 pounds.

He joins brother, Jonathan. His grandparents are Bevery Nierstheimer, David Nierstheimer, Thomas Loop and Zelda Loop.
