Kenai honored for financial reporting

The city of Kenai has been awarded a certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The award recognizes significant accomplishment by a government and its management and was presented to city finance director Lawrence A. Semmens for the city comprehensive annual financial report.

Navy units seek crew members for reunion

The U.S. Navy Reunion Group is planning its fifth annual reunion for the Asheville and Tacoma Class Navy Patrol Gunboats. The reunion is for crew members from all 17 patrol gunboats, as well as squadron staffs and flagships. The reunion will be Aug. 21 to 25 in Chicago. Homer Community School updates programs

The following classes have been added to the spring program:

Spring Fishing Regulations -- topics include Homer area sport fishing regulations and changes to the 2002 regulations, April 15, 7 to 8 p.m.

Review of 2000 International Residential Code -- for contractors, owner-builders, construction workers and handymen, April 27, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Indoor Air Quality -- topics include mold, arsenic in water, radon, carbon monoxide and other indoor air pollutants, May 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The following corrections and changes have been made:

Berry basket making will be April 27

Landscape painting with acrylics will be April 23 and 24

The How-Tos and Whys of the Razor Clam will be May 24 and 25

Pool sessions for kayaking classes will start at 8 p.m.

Youth volleyball players sought for Europe tour

The Sports For Youth Foundation is seeking applications for its 2002 Goodwill Ambassadors World Tour. Boys and girls ages 15 to 20 who are accomplished volleyball players can apply to represent the United States in the tour.

Players will visit London, Paris, Geneva, Venice and Rome from July 1 to 22 for a cultural and athletic enrichment program. The volleyball team will play in international age group volleyball tournaments and local club teams in each city. Full sightseeing tours are scheduled as well.
