Basketball league would not be possible without help of many

Posted: Thursday, April 01, 2004

The Boys and Girls Club's seventh-eighth grade basketball league recently concluded its season. Boys and girls from throughout the central Kenai Peninsula area had the opportunity to be part of a team, improve their basketball skills, get a little exercise and socialize with friends.

Hats off to the many people involved in making the season run smoothly Craig Jung and Tim Delaney for presenting the coaches clinic; all those who helped keep score, time and stats during games; the encouraging fans; Kenai Middle School for the use of its gym; and the hard-working referees for providing a safe, positive environment for the kids to play in.

The Boys and Girls Club is especially grateful to those who made time in their busy lives to coach. Without their willingness to volunteer their time, there would not be a basketball program! The Boys & Girls Club salutes these awesome individuals: Mike Gustkey, Craig Jung, Kelly Saltzgiver, Jim Beeson, Matt Medina, Rob Dimick, Darryl Byerley, Misty McCown, Dan Duke, Lisa Duke, Diane Duncan, Doug Munn, Cedric Scott, Steve Stenga, Tim Delaney, Velvet Heffner, Ted Forsi, Charlie Stephens, Jeff Mills, Toni Steward, Tony Garcia and Matt Brandt. Thanks for giving these kids an opportunity to play.

Also, the Boys and Girls Club greatly appreciates the generosity of the individuals and businesses who gave their financial support by sponsoring a team: Mike and Marsha Gustkey, Arby's, James Julien, DDS, River City Dental and Eyewear Express. Thanks for helping to ensure the continuation of our progress.
