Democracy begins at home

Posted: Tuesday, April 01, 2008

Greetings from Ecuador. I have not been able to keep up to date on the political situation between the United States, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.

I have seen enough to know the American people are being lied to once again.

Venezuela is in threat of being placed on the terrorist list for funding Colombian rebels.

That's kind of odd seeing that the United States has funded countless rebel groups and dictators alike.

This whole terrorist thing is starting to remind me of Salem witch hunts or maybe that thing about rooting out all those "communist" in the 1950s.

Here's one I remember, the Cold War. In school we had a drill in case of a nuclear attack.

Every time I saw a plane in the sky I would wonder if it could be a Soviet bomber.

That fear was taught to an entire generation.

Do you see the pattern? Control through fear and hopelessness and divide and conquer.

In my opinion, Alaskans have the spirit of our founding fathers to bring about democracy once again. Let us begin in our own backyard.
