Kenai residents Robert James Downie, Daniel William Downie and Richard Arthur Downie died Thursday, March 30, 2000, from injuries sustained in a fire at their residence in North Kenai. They were 5, 11, and 39, respectively.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. Sister Joyce Ross will officiate. Additional services will be held Thursday at Green Hills Chapel, followed by burial at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Robert James Downie was born Sept. 29, 1994, in Lander, Wyo. He moved to North Kenai with his family in January 1999. He enjoyed fishing, camping, sledding and riding his bike.

"Robbie was a cute, bright-eyed kid. Not only did he have many children as friends, but it was not unusual for critters to come knocking at the door to see if Robbie could play. Robbie, Mom is going to miss your hugs and 'kid love'," his mother said.

Daniel William Downie was born May 14, 1988, in Bellflower, Calif. He moved to North Kenai with his family in January 1999. Daniel was in the sixth grade attending North Star Elementary School in Nikiski. He was to play the lead role of Henry Higgins in the North Star musical "My Fair Lady." He enjoyed playing basketball, camping, and fishing.

"Daniel was a wonderful, loving child respected by his peers. He had a rare character trait of finding the good and positive in people. Daniel always had a smile for others. He always tried to do the right thing and worked very hard to achieve that goal. Daniel, Mom is going to miss your hugs and 'kid love'," his mother said.

Richard Arthur Downie was born Jan. 27, 1961, in Springfield, Mass., where he was raised and graduated from high school. He moved to North Kenai with his family in January 1999. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Mr. Downie worked for Ken Puch Construction in North Kenai.

"Richard had a really big heart. He would do anything for his neighbor and was devoted to his family. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him," his wife said.

Robert, Daniel and Richard are survived by mother and wife, Corrine Downie; grandparents and parents-in-law, Jerry and Rita Flanigan, of Temecula, Calif.; grandparents and parents, Bill and Lucille Downie, of Torrance, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law and aunt and uncle, Betty and John Haines, address unknown; aunts, an uncle and two cousins.
