Coalition's gratitude overflows for donation of North Fork land

Community Rivers Planning Coalition (CRPC) would like to thank Spenard Builders Supply for its generous donation of 3.5 acres off the North Fork Road to our organization. CRPC is a broad-based volunteer organization whose purpose is to respond creatively and collaboratively to growth and change in the area drained by the Anchor River, Stariski Creek and Happy Valley Creek.

Community Rivers Planning Coalition plans to use the land as a trailhead that will connect to the state land directly behind the property. The trail will be used for skiing, snowmachining and other various recreational opportunities. Creating this trailhead is the first step in CRPC's Sustainable Development Plan that identified developing a network of multi-use trails as a main goal of the community.

CRPC will begin the planning phase for the creation of the trailhead at our next regular meeting, at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Chapman School Library.

Thanks again to Spenard Builders Supply for giving our organization and the community this opportunity.

Roses are red, violets are blue; workshop a success, thanks to you

The Kenai Library Book Club would like to thank the following businesses, organizations and individuals who so generously donated their time, money or talent to make the Kenai Poetry Slam Workshop a success!

Special thanks to the Kenai Merit Inn, Ewa Jankowska, the Paternal Order of Eagles, the Kenai Peninsula Central Labor Council and the Kenai Convention and Visitor's Bureau for their help with transportation costs and lodging for our poetry workshop presenters.

I would also like to especially thank April Nyquist, who designed our Poetry Slam Workshop poster, and Merrill Sikorski for his wonderful radio interview. Once again the following community-spirited members of the Kenai Library Book Club came together to support poetry and poets: Janice Chumley, Deb Nyquist, Joan Schrader-Bennett, Edna Jones, Miriam Woodin and Joy Morgan.
