Posted: Wednesday, April 02, 2003

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. response barge was stranded when its tow line broke, the company said Tuesday.

The tug Endurance was transporting the barge to Kodiak Sunday for an annual fishing vessel training when the tow wire parted. Alyeska's response tug Attentive arrived Monday morning and took the response barge in tow.

There were 17 people on board the barge. When the wire broke, winds were blowing over 60 knots and seas were averaging 25 feet.

No injuries were reported.

The barge was expected to be towed to Kodiak and arrive Tuesday night.
