The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association Ice Hawks lost 7-4 Thursday to the Hollydell Hurricanes at the Under-16 Tier II Nationals in Ellenton, Fla.
The Ice Hawks fall to 0-2 at the tournament with the loss.
Things started out positively for the Ice Hawks Thursday as they took a 2-0 lead after the first period. Trevor Baldwin scored an unassisted, short-handed goal to get KPHA on the board, then Travis Temple scored on an assist from Aaron Lampman-Reid.
However, Hollydell stormed back with four goals in the second period. Jimmy Sprinkle had a pair of goals in the period, while Mike Innaurato and Colin Davis each added tallies.
About 5 minutes into the third period, Garrett Bossert cut the lead to 4-3 when he scored on assists from Charles Henley and Baldwin. However, Sprinkle, Pat Capone and Innaurato ripped off goals in succession to put the game out of reach. Lampman-Reid, on assist from Temple, added a late goal for KPHA.
Kris Marquis had 31 saves for the Ice Hawks, who had 20 shots to Hollydell's 40.
KPHA will face Casco Bay today in a game that starts at 11:30 a.m. Alaskan time.
