Kenai Peninsula wrestler Michaela Hutchison won the 100-pound weight class at the Tanana Invitational Wrestling Tournament in early March. The Tanana Invitational is the unofficial middle school state championships.
Hutchison, the only female to ever win a title at Tenana, was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament after winning a Tanana title for the third time.
Kenai Peninsula wrestlers took four other championships at the tournament. At 121, Cody Booth of Kenai Middle School triumphed with a 5-0 record. Booth is a two-time Kenai Peninsula Borough champion.
Jordan Goracke of Soldotna Middle School won with a 5-0 record at 140. Goracke won a Kenai Peninsula Borough title last year. Eddie Buffington of Kenai Middle School won the crown at 148 with a 5-0 record. Buffington is a two-time Kenai Peninsula Borough champion. Finally, Austin Vanderford of Ninilchik won at 110 with a 5-0 record.
Other peninsula wrestlers placing were Robby Brymer of Chapman placing second at 95, John Bouman of Chapman taking third at 110, Tris Brymer of Chapman taking third at 140 and Billy Edge of Chapman taking seventh at 105.
