Sterling Elementary School kindergarten registration will be April 15 to 18.

Sterling student takes second in art contest

Kevin Garske, a Sterling Elementary fifth-grader, placed second in the Alaska Department of Fish and game's Sport Fish Division art contest.

Students from Southcentral Alaska, Kodiak and Bristol Bay entered artwork to decorate the covers of regional 2002 sportfish regulation booklets.

Only first-place artwork will appear on the booklet covers, but the division chose first, second and third place winners for each region.

Garske was one of 526 students to submit art for the Southcentral region.

SMS students make every penny count

The Boys and Girls Club After the Bell program at Soldotna Middle School is holding a penny war between the seventh- and eighth-grade classes. Each class will compete to fill five-gallon water jugs with pennies before the end of April. The pennies will be donated to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.
