Jensen named high achiever
Soldotna High School student Sara Jensen was named as Achievement Academy winner in English. She was chosen based on her academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, dependability and a recommendation from teachers.
Jensen joins an elite group of students, as less than 10 percent of all American high school students are recognized.
She is the daughter of Karen and Randy Jensen and the granddaughter of Kenny Tonnessen and Joan and Dennis Jensen, all of North Dakota.
Former Soldotna resident Bethany Joy Thornton was selected for inclusion in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She was selected on her academic achievement, service to the community, extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
Thornton is a senior at Grace College pursuing a bachelor’s degree in counseling and sociology.
She is the daughter of Sue and Dan Thornton.
Soldotna Elks’ table tennis results
Matt Faris and Ray DeBardelaben won the Soldotna Elks Lodges doubles table tennis tournament Wednesday. Gary Brumley and Chad Botirius placed second, and Brannon Ames and Dan Mortenson placed third.
The Soldotna Elks hold table tennis tournaments every Wednesday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Bob at 262-5130.
