Air Force junior Paige Blackburn, who graduated from Soldotna in 2009, tallied a distance of 160 feet, 4 inches, to win the discus event last weekend at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
Blackburn's throw, which was 6 feet farther than any other toss on the day, was a personal best and the third-farthest in Academy history. She was among three Falcons who placed in the top 10 in their respective events.
Peninsula trio leads UAA track and field
Kenai Central grads Billy Kiefer and Levi Sutton and Skyview grad Ivy O'Guinn earned top-15 finishes in their respective events for the University of Alaska Anchorage track and field team Friday and Saturday at the Willamette Invite in Willamette, Ore.
Kiefer, who graduated in 2010, took 13th place in the men's 800-meter race in a time of 1 minute, 57.69 seconds, on Saturday. Sutton, a 2008 grad, placed 10th in Saturday's 400 with a time of 50.45.
On Friday in the Celebration of Distance event in the women's competition, O'Guinn earned sixth in the 1,500. The 2010 grad finished the race in 4:37.71.
SoHi grad Senette wraps up first college hoops season
Judson University freshman Karen Senette, who graduated from SoHi in 2010, averaged 7.4 points, three rebounds and three assists in her first season of college basketball.
The 5-foot-6 guard also shot 87.8 percent from the free throw line, helping Judson to a 12-18 record. Located in Elgin, Ill., Judson competes in the Division II Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
