Posted: Thursday, April 04, 2002

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 23-year-old man is accused of trying to stab a village police officer in Gambell.

Alaska State Troopers arrested Homer Oozevaseuk last week on suspicion of attempting to stab the officer, Michael Klinger.

Troopers said Klinger went to a home last Thursday in the Saint Lawrence Island village after a caller reported a disturbance. Troopers said Oozevaseuk tried to stab Klinger with a 10-inch filet knife while the officer was investigating the call.

Klinger responded with pepper spray and arrested Oozevaseuk, troopers said.

Oozevaseuk has been charged with third-degree assault, resisting arrest and violating conditions of release. He was taken to Anvil Mountain Correctional Center in Nome and was being held on $5,000 bail.
