Man pleads innocent in child sex abuse case

KENAI (AP) A 66-year-old Anchor Point man has pleaded innocent to charges that he sexually abused three young children.

Gerald L. Symens entered his pleas in Kenai Superior Court Tuesday, and Judge Harold M. Brown scheduled a jury trial to begin the week of June 23 in Homer.

Symens was indicted by a grand jury March 21. He is accused of abusing children ages 9, 8 and 5 and attempted sexual abuse of one 9-year-old in the Homer and Anchor Point area in 2001 and last year. He faces 11 separate charges.

Symens is being held at the Wildwood Pretrial Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail.
