Dog mushing fun run, barbecue today

The Peninsula Sled Dog Racing Association will hold a dog mushing fun run and barbecue beginning at 1 p.m. today at the the new trail head on Funny River Road. The barbecue-potluck begins at 3:30 p.m. There is no fee. For more information, call Mitch at 252-5350 or Connie at 262-7293.

SoHi after-prom committee to meet

The Soldotna High School after-prom committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the school library. Parents are reminded to send in donations. The committee is looking for cash prizes, food items and chaperones. For more information, to volunteer or to make a donation, call 262-2480.

Park board to discuss reduction to budgets

The Southern Peninsula State Parks advisory board will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ninilchik Senior Citizens Center. Agenda items will include proposed reductions of the State Parks budget and the impact of contracting with private businesses for the management of the Kasilof, Ninilchik-Deep Creek and Anchor Point area state parks. There also will be a presentation on the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan update.

KPSD to display students' artwork

The Kenai Peninsula School District will display artwork from peninsula students beginning Thursday and continuing through April 30 at the Kenai Fine Arts Center. It will hold an open reception and awards presentation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the center. Light snacks will be served. For more information, call Ann 262-7411.

Parent organization to discuss gangs

Parents for a Safe Community will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Soldotna High School teachers' lounge. The topic will be "Gangs: When City Problems Migrate to Towns." The Soldotna Police Department will lead the forum, which is sponsored by the SoHi PTSA. The public is invited to attend.

Genealogical society to meet

The Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will have a resource event Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. to help interested community members answer questions about genealogy. For more information, call Cheryl Hamann at 283-4481.

Preschool to hold fund-raiser

The Soldotna Cooperative Preschool will hold a spaghetti feed fund-raiser from 4 to 7 p.m. April 17 at Christ Lutheran Church. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 per person or $15 for a family of four. Door prizes will be given. For more information, call 262-9149.
