Longtime Nikiski resident Margaret Rose (Jung) Kivi died Friday, April 1, 2005, at her home in Nikiski. She was 90.
A visitation and wake service will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today, April 4 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. A funeral Mass will be held at 6 p.m. today at the church. Father LeRoy Clementich will officiate.
Mrs. Kivi was born Dec. 28, 1914, in Bethel. She attended St. Mary's School. She lived in Bethel until the early 1930s. She then moved to Fairbanks, where she worked for Wein Airlines. Mrs. Kivi moved to Anchorage in 1942 and worked for Northern Consolidated Airlines during the 1940s until she retired and moved to Nikiski in 1975.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed spending time at the senior center, gardening, sewing furs, making crafts, music and being with her dog, Sparky.
"Margie was known and loved by everyone whose lives she touched. We will be forever grateful for the gentle, loving and caring presence she brought into our lives," the Ken and Lorraine Kivi family said.
"Margie, known to many as Margie Brown, was an independent woman. She was always ready for a plane ride, a camping trip, berry picking, fishing or shoveling snow off her house roof at 82 years old."
Mrs. Kivi loved music and played the accordion and harmonica. She enjoyed attending local musicals. She made fur parkas, slippers, mitts and dolls. She made her own designs and did her own bead work. She made many beautiful crafts, crocheted, knitted and sewed.
Mrs. Kivi was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W. Kivi; parents, Henry and Bertha Jung; brother, Henry Jung; and sisters, Lillian, Mary Alice and Bertha.
She is survived by her brother, Jack Smeaton and family of Dillingham; sister-in-law, Gladys Jung and family of Bethel; Ken and Lorraine Kivi and many other nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be sent in Mrs. Kivi's name to the Alzheimer's Disease Resource Agency of Alaska (ADRAA), 1750 Abbott Road, Anchorage, AK 99507.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
