Section name change sought

The Peninsula Clarion is looking to rename its arts and entertainment section, and wants help from our readers. The name may be more than one word and should incorporate all aspects of the arts and entertainment, including painting, sculpting, crafts, music, acting, movies, television, books, video games and hobbies.

The winner will receive dinner for two.

The deadline for submissions is April 14 at 6 p.m. Submissions must include your name, address and phone number and may be e-mailed to news@peninsulaclarion.com, faxed “attention newsroom” to (907) 283-3299, mailed to P.O. Box 3009, Kenai, AK 99611, or dropped off at the Clarion office between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at 150 Trading Bay in Kenai.

Volunteer firefighter meeting today

Central Emergency Services will hold a volunteer firefighter informational meeting for interested area residents at 6:30 p.m. today at Fire Station No. 1 in Soldotna. Applications also are available at the station.

The Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will have a resource Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Kenai Community Library. For more information, call 283-4481.

Wildfire preparedness training set

The Alaska Division of Forestry, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Kenai Peninsula Borough Citizen Corps Program will host a a free wildfire preparedness training from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 15 at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road.

Topics will be wildfire behavior, methods for assessing and reducing wildfire risks on your property, evacuation planning for families, pets and neighborhoods and methods for pretreating and defending your home.
