Kenai resident Marjorie Anne O'Reilly died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at her home from cancer. She was 69.
Visitation will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. Father Richard Tero will officiate. The pallbearers will be her sons, Vincent O'Reilly, Sean O'Reilly and Tom O'Reilly, and sons-in-law, Ron Marblestone, Jim Rich and Blaine Gilman.
Her ashes will be scattered at Hidden Lake at a future time.
Mrs. O'Reilly was born Sept. 25, 1930, in Boston. She was valedictorian at both St. Joseph's Academy and Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y.
She married James Vincent O'Reilly Jr. on Oct. 25, 1952, in Boston. They had six children and lived in Manhasset, N.Y.
She moved to Kenai with her family in 1971. Beginning in 1973, she was a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. She taught at Nikiski Elementary, Kenai Elementary and Mountain View Elementary. She retired from the district in 1990. Most recently she worked as a legal secretary for the law office of Blaine Gilman.
She was an active member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church. She served two terms on the Kenai City Council between 1984 and 1990. She was a member and was elected chairperson of the Alaska Public Offices Commission from 1992 to 1997. She was a board member of both Bishops Attic and the Kenai Performers.
Her hobbies included theater, knitting, sewing and reading.
"Marjorie had an enduring love for family. Her prime goal was to take care of her husband, children and grandchildren. She never let any activity interfere with her family. She was outstanding in everything she did. Marjorie's enormous strength will endure, and sustain us forever," her family said.
Mrs. O'Reilly was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Erin O'Reilly.
Mrs. O'Reilly is survived by her husband, James Vincent O'Reilly Jr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Deirdre and Ron Marblestone of San Mateo, Calif., Patty and Jim Rich of Sterling, and Margaret and Blaine Gilman of Kenai; sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent and Peggy O'Reilly of Bird, and Tom and Patty O'Reilly of Minnetonka, Minn.; son Sean O'Reilly of Williams, Calif.; sister, Patricia Coggins of Chicago; grandchildren, Daniel, Elizabeth, Maria and Emily Rich, Claire, Brian and Sarah Marblestone, Kathleen, James, Rachel, Annie, Katherine, Tommy, Jack and Anna Rose O'Reilly and Rebecca, Benjamin, Jacob and Brittany Gilman.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
