Health week focuses on reducing obesity
The Kenai Public Health Center reminds residents this week is National Public Health week. The theme this year is "Getting in shape for the future" and focuses on reversing the growing trend of obesity among adults and children in the United States. The rate of obesity is growing in Alaska, with 13.1 percent of residents being obese in 1991 and 20.5 percent in 2000.
The center provides well child exams that can help prevent obesity in children. It also offers nutrition and exercise counseling and provides community education as requested. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Peterson to address consolidation plans
Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Superintendent Donna Peterson will be at North Star Elementary School at 7:30 p.m. Monday to discuss potential plans to merge Nikiski and North Star elementary schools. Baha'is to host peace devotions
The Kalifornsky Baha'i Study Circle is hosting devotions oriented to peace at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ridgeway Baha'i Center on Knight Drive.
People of all faiths are welcome and encouraged to bring their own selections of devotional readings, prayers or music to share. Call 283-6650 for more information.
DMV to close for training
The Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles offices on Kalifornsky Beach Road and in Homer will be closed Wednesday for staff training.

Bagley to address Kenai chamber

Chamber to host budget meeting

Spaghetti feed planned
A spaghetti feed to raise funds for the Sterling Senior Van Fund will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Sterling Senior Center. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 3 through 12 and $30 per family. For more information, call 262-6808.
Seniors plan Trash and Treasure Sale
