Soldotnas Mabeus on a roll

Chris Mabeus, a graduate of Soldotna High School, is on a roll pitching for Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.

Mabeus, a junior right-hander, is a perfect 7-0 with a 1.99 earned run average in his first year with the Warriors.

The Warriors have posted several notable wins with Mabeus on the mound. Lewis-Clark downed Pepperdine 4-2 on March 29 at the Rainbow Easter Baseball Tournament in Honolulu.

Mabeus allowed seven hits, struck out three and walked one in seven innings for the win. He was familiar with the Pepperdine lineup, having played with Waves Danny Garcia and Damon Katz with the Peninsula Oilers.

Mabeus earned MVP honors for the Rainbow Tourney after pitching the Warriors to a 5-4 win over host Hawaii Monday with a 12-hit, six-strikeout, one-walk, complete-game effort.

The 29-7 Warriors are the top-ranked team in the NAIA college poll.
