The following is a list of Soldotna Community Schools classes and activities beginning this week. It is printed as a reminder to preregistered participants. Anyone who is not preregistered but is interested in a class can call Soldotna Community Schools at 262-6768.
Equine Nutrition with Julie Britton, certified horsemanship instructor with Happy Trails Horsemanship The class will offer suggestions to monitor the health of the whole horse and its individual needs to offset disease and other health concerns. It also will cover the importance of weight management, how much and what to feed, grain and feed tag analysis, and kinds of supplements available for horses.
The class will offer money saving suggestions to enable the horse owner to become educated about hay-grain selection, evaluation and storage. An equine nutrition packet will be provided for each participant, and current articles, periodicals and the national Academy Press Nutrient Requirements of Horses will be available to participants for checkout from the instructor.
The class meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Soldotna Middle School room 1. It is open to teens and adults with a 25-person maximum. The cost is $15 per person or $20 per family.
Introduction to Sweep Rowing with Donna Rea This class has been added to the spring schedule and is not in the Community Schools brochure. Kenai Crewser members will present information about the sport of sweep rowing and sculling for recreation, fitness and competition.
Participants will learn about equipment, training, safety, clothing and local rowing opportunities. No prior experience is needed. The class is open to males and females 12 and older.
It will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. April 15 in the Soldotna Middle School library. For more information, call 262-6037 or 260-OARS.
