Silly song contest today

The public is invited to the Kenai Community Library Silly Song & Lyrics contest at 6 p.m. Monday in the library. The winning song will be selected by audience acclaim and be aired on KSRM radio.

Little League clinics slated

Kenai Little League baseball clinics have been changed to every Monday night beginning today and continuing through the end of April at Kenai Middle School. Clinics for players 5-10 years old will be from 7 to 8 p.m. and for players 11 and older will be from 8 to 9 p.m.

Sign-ups will be conducted at the Kenai Safeway store from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Players can also register during the Monday clinics.

Beekeepers plan virtual hiving

Beekeepers will have a virtual hiving demonstration during their regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. today in the Soldotna Middle School library. They also plan to discuss spring feeding and equipment building.

Hockey spring tryouts slated

The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association will conduct Tier II tryouts today through Friday at the ConocoPhillips Multipurpose Facility in Kenai. Specific ice times and divisions are listed on the association Web site: www.kpha.net.

Candidates should bring full gear and arrive one hour early on the first night of tryouts. They should also bring proof of current USA Hockey membership. Registration can be made online at www.usahockey.com. Those who did not skate with KPHA last year need to bring their birth certificates.

Swim lessons start Tuesday

Swimming will be taught at the Kenai pool beginning Tuesday and continuing through April 17. Swim lessons will be from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. and from 7:10 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. Levels taught will include preschool and levels 1, 2 and 3.

The cost is $40 for a total of seven days. Advance sign up at the pool is required.

Kasilof historians to discuss homesteaders

The Kasilof Historical Association is hosting an evening presentation and discussion by and about local homesteaders beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday at the McLane Center, Mile 1/2 Kalifornsky Beach Road in Kasilof.

KPC offers small business seminar

A Farmer's Markets and Bazaars small business success seminar will be conducted from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kenai Peninsula College. The cost is $10 and pre-registration is required. Participants will learn how to get customers to stop, look and buy as well as receiving information on advertising, display techniques and trends. To register, call 262-5824.

School orientation scheduled

The Kenai Middle School orientation for incoming sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students will begin with a barbecue at 5:30 p.m. followed by an orientation for parents in the library at 6 p.m. Activities are planned for new students while parents attend the orientation. Door prizes will be awarded.
