Children's lip sync, dance contest upcoming

Showin' Off the Kids is scheduled for April 10, 6 p.m. at Soldotna High School. Showin' Off the Kids is a lip synch and choreography contest, sponsored by Soldotna Community Schools, for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade. This is our 25th anniversary of providing "G-rated, family entertainment" and giving kids a chance to shine on stage! Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for kids. Historical speech to be held at KPC

KPC Showcase Series presents a talk by Dr. Jane Haigh, who recently joined the faculty at KPC as Assistant Professor of History, on Political Power, Patronage and Protection Rackets and Con men and Political Corruption in Denver: 1889-1894 on April 15 at 7 p.m. in the KPC Commons. Haigh is the author of a number of books of popular Alaska history, including Gold Rush Women, and Gold Rush Dogs. She was honored in 2007 as the Alaska Historian of the Year by the Alaska Historical Society for her most recent books, Searching for Fannie Quigley: A Wilderness Life in the Shadow of Mt. McKinley (Ohio University Press, 2007) and King Con: the Story of Soapy Smith (2006). Call Dave at 262-0346 for more information.

Sterling Head Start now enrolling for fall

Sterling Head Start is a free child development program that serves young children, three to five and their families. Sterling Head Start offers a.m. or p.m. classroom options, consisting of four, 3 1/2 hour classroom days (Monday - Thursday). Head Start has bus service that includes pick up in Soldotna and also serves the children breakfast, lunch, and snack. Sterling Head Start is located on the Sterling Highway at Mile 81.5 next to Cook's Tesoro. Please call 260-7446 for more information.

Support group for at-home moms forms

The MOMS Club, an international non-profit organization specifically for stay-at-home mothers, is starting a chapter on the Kenai Peninsula. Most activities are scheduled for the daytime hours and children are always welcome and encouraged. An informational open house will be held on April 19. If you're a stay-at-home mom, and you live anywhere on the Kenai Peninsula, you are invited to come check us out.
