Joint chamber meeting features coal to liquid project

Alliance hears from oil execs

Clarion staff recognized for work

Four Peninsula Clarion newsroom staff were recognized by the Alaska Press Club for their work in 2010. The awards were presented Saturday during the press club's annual statewide journalism conference in Anchorage.

Reporter Brielle Schaeffer won a third-place award in the large circulation print category for breaking news for her reporting of a fatal canoe accident at Johnson Lake in Kasilof last summer.

Reporter Molly Dischner won a second-place award in the small circulation print category for her work on a series of stories for The Sun-Star, the student newspaper at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, before she joined the Clarion.

Sports editor Jeff Helminiak won third place for his "Clarion Calls" sports column writing. The category was open to journalists in print, online, radio and TV.

Managing editor Will Morrow won third place in the Leslie Ann Murray Award for editorial or commentary, open to all media, and second place in the Suzan Nightingale Award for best columnist in the large circulation print category.

Peninsula Realtors hold raffle fundraiser

The Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors is holding its annual Hospice and Habitat for Humanity raffle Fundraiser. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Grand prize is a 2011 Outlander 400 four-wheeler ATV, first prize is a Tikka 300 Winchester magnum rifle, second prize is a framed print of "The Waterfall," by Ed Tussey, and third prize is a basket from Homer Bear Creek Winery.
