ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A hotel under construction in Downtown Anchorage was destroyed by fire early Tuesday.
The Aspen Hotel at 8th Avenue and A Street went up in flames at about 2:30 a.m. Firefighters had the blaze under control about 45 minutes later.
The 90-room hotel, which was scheduled to open June 1, was considered a total loss, with damage estimated at $4.5 million.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries.
Fire investigators said they interviewed two people who were seen leaving the burning building and the investigation into the cause of the blaze was continuing.
