ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Phillips Alaska Inc. said a pin-size hole in a production line caused a 1,200 gallon spill of water and oil at the Kuparuk oil field Sunday.
The spill was discovered at about 10:30 a.m. By Monday afternoon, crews had cleaned up about a third of the mixture, which included about 96 gallons of oil, the company said. The cleanup was expected to be completed in the next few days.
Ed Meggert of the state Department of Environmental Conservation said it's not known what caused the hole in the line but corrosion may have contributed to the problem.
