PALMER (AP) -- A member of the Matanuska Electric Association board was ousted from the panel for failing to follow a new drug-testing rule.
Mike Janacek did not attend a meeting Monday, when remaining members disqualified him for not submitting a hair sample. According to a bylaw adopted Saturday at the annual membership meeting, failure of board members to have the drug test makes them ineligible to serve.
Janacek said he could not attend the meeting because he's ill. Neither he nor his lawyer, Bill Ingaldsen, would say if Janacek intended to take the test in any case.
Ingaldsen would not say what legal recourse Janacek might take.
MEA officials said the co-op is already advertising to fill the vacancy. The remaining members could choose a replacement as early as next Monday.
