Daughter grateful for troopers' work in mother's murder case

Posted: Wednesday, April 09, 2003

I would like to take a moment to personally thank the Alaska State Troopers and, in particular, the Cold Case Unit for getting an indictment in my mother's murder case.

This came 18 years and 4 days after my mom was killed in her own home by a stranger to our family. It has been a long road for the family, not knowing who or why. I have watched my two children grow up without their grandmother. So many times I wished Mom could see the grandchildren's accomplishments and the beautiful adults they have become. So many times, I wanted to share things with my mom but was unable to because of this tragedy.

I hear people say so many bad things about the different police departments. After working closely with them over the years, I must commend them on their thorough, caring, passionate and compassionate work. The investigators have come and gone in these 18 years, but as each one came, they took interest in my mom's case and, I feel, tried their best.

In particular, I want to thank Investigator Gifford. You and the rest of this unit, have done a good job. The battle is not yet won, but for the first time, there is a glimmer of hope.

Thank you.
