Axtell joins Air Force

Air Force Airman Dustin S. Axtell has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, he studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies.

In addition, he earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Axtell is the son of Nina Wilson of Shady Cove, Ore., and Terry Axtell of Soldotna.

Area students named to honor rolls

· Kasilof resident Heather R. Madden was named to the president’s list for the winter semester at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. Madden is a junior majoring in radiologic science.

She is the daughter of Casey and Vicki Madden of Kasilof.

· Sophomore Megan K. Kennedy of Kenai was named to the dean’s list at the University of New Mexico. To be named to the list students must have completed at lest six credit hours and must have a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Bowlin wins Voice of Democracy

Jessica Bowlin of Nikiski High School was awarded first place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars “Voice of Democracy” audio essay contest for the Kenai Peninsula district. She received a $500 U.S. savings bond at the awards ceremony held at the Anchor Point VFW post.

Her entry will go to the state level.
