Longtime Alaska resident Vern Eugene Leesman died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Wesley Rehab and Care Center in Seward. He was 68.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Soldotna United Methodist Church in Soldotna. Pastor Dale Kelley will officiate.
Mr. Leesman was born Dec. 18, 1931, to Charles and Ester (Phillips) Leesman in Sargent, Neb. He was educated through the 12th grade. In 1951, he began working for Western Electric. His territory for Western Electric covered five states.
In 1961, Mr. Leesman worked for United Telephone Company of the West in Scottsbluff, Neb. He worked there until moving to Anchorage in 1973.
After arriving in Anchorage, he began working for RCA and, as it was later known, Alascom. He retired in 1989.
In 1990, Mr. Leesman moved to Sterling and lived there until entering the Wesley Rehab and Care Center in 1998.
Mr. Leesman enjoyed fishing and bowling.
His family said, "He was a caring husband, father and grandfather. He was also a buddy to fishing and bowling friends."
Mr. Leesman is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jane; daughters and sons-in-law, Jolyn and Kevin Zilko and Peggy and Rolly Ensign; daughter, Susan Hanatsch; brother and sister-in-law, Manford and Evelyn Leesman; sister and brother-in-law, Roma and Duane Martin; brother, Rodney Leesman; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several special cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
