Ninilchik resident Sophie Mary Hunt died from cancer Friday, April 7, 2000, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage. She was 63.
A graveside service will be held at Ninilchik Cemetery at 2 p.m. today. The Rev. Ronald Blough will officiate.
Mrs. Hunt was was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She lived most of her life in Cape May, N.J.
In 1982, she and her husband, Richard, moved to Alaska. They chose to settle in Ninilchik in a home overlooking Anderson Flats. Together they enjoyed gardening, fishing and clamming.
Mrs. Hunt diligently preserved the bounty from garden, field, river and sea. Her pantry shelves were lined with jellies, jams, syrups and canned salmon.
Mrs. Hunt is survived by her husband, Richard; sons Luke, Fred, Jessie and Hank; daughter, Nora; and seven grandchildren, all living on the East Coast.
