Healthy communities to meet

The Healthy Communities-Healthy People steering committee will hold its regular meeting at 1:30 p.m. today at Bridges, 145 Kasilof St. in Soldotna. For more information, call 260-3800.

Spay-neuter clinic offered

The Alaska SPCA low cost spay-neuter veterinary hospital will hold its first clinic of 2003 through April 11 in Sterling. Surgery costs are $70 for female dogs, $56 for male dogs and female cats, and $30 for male cats. Low-cost vaccinations also are available without an appointment. Murkowski representative to speak at chamber

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Thursday at the North Kenai Baptist church. A member of Gov. Frank Murkowski's budget committee will be the guest speaker. For more information, call 776-3250.

Duffy to speak in Kenai

Alaska Department of Fish and Game commissioner Kevin Duffy will speak at a special meeting of the Kenai Chamber of Commerce today at noon at Paradisos restaurant in Kenai. For more information, call 283-7989.

Sled dog association to meet

The Peninsula Sled Dog Racing Association will hold its regular meeting today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kenai River Center, located on Funny River Road in Soldotna. For more information, call Mindee at 283-3954 or Mitch at 262-4977.

Kenai Central to hold prom

The Kenai Central High School junior-senior prom will be held Saturday. Promenade starts at 8 p.m. with the dance going until midnight. There is a $2 charge to attend promenade. Donations will be accepted to help with the cost of after-prom activities.

Apple tree workshop scheduled

The Central Peninsula Master Gardeners program will present an apple tree pruning workshop with Dan Elliott of the Alaska Pioneer Fruit Growers April 21 from 3 until 7 p.m.

The workshop requires that participants view a 30 minute video prior to attending. Video viewing will be April 18 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and April 21 at 1 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension office, located on Kalifornsky Beach Road.

DEC plans food handling class

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation will hold a food handlers class April 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kenai Peninsula Borough building in Soldotna. Preregistration is required. For more information, call Jeri at 262-5210.
