Fassler gets reader's support for HEA board

Posted: Friday, April 10, 2009

The HEA District 2 covers from Kasilof through Soldotna, Funny River, Ridgeway, to Sterling. This area was represented by Dave Carey before he was elected Borough Mayor a few months ago and resigned from the HEA Board of Directors.

My neighbor, Jim Fassler, is a candidate for District 2 of HEA. He has the qualities that will be needed for this position. I will vote for Jim, and I recommend that others in our district support Jim with your vote.

A few years ago Jim retired from ACS. Now his home, neighborhood, and community take much of his attention. On winter mornings, senior citizens in our little subdivision often find that Jim has been by with his four-wheeler and has snowbladed a path down the driveway to our newspaper box and has cleared away any snow-berm at the end of the driveway. Lucky us.

As a veteran, Jim has been active in the Soldotna VFW Post for many years. Perhaps you have noticed him representing the VFW with his huge antique red truck in our local parades. During the two years that Jim served as Post Commander, he worked very hard to review and to organize the Post's income and to assure that it would be secure financially for future years. Jim knew how important it is to have a place for the veterans of our area to gather.

Jim and his wife, Colleen, have been active with the Soldotna Historical Society and Museum. He has served that group as a maintenance person for several years. This winter he helped with a group of guys in restoring one of the cabins at the museum.

Please join me in voting to elect Jim Fassler to the District 2 seat of the HEA Board. He will think through the needs of our area and will help come up with wise solutions.
