Host families needed

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District's CASTLE program is looking for families in the Skyview, Soldotna and Kenai Central High School attendance areas to provide homes for 11th-grade students from Port Graham for the 2005-06 school year.

Head Start open house set

Sterling Head Start will host an open house from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mile 81.5 on the Sterling Highway next to Cook's Corner Tesoro. Preschool-age children and their families are invited to tour the facility, make a snack, hear a story, do a craft and play with toys.

It is a free preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. For more information, call 260-7446.

Dinner, auction benefit slated

A benefit for Soldotna resident Russell McLaren will be held at 6 p.m. May 14 at the Soldotna Sports Center. Food, entertainment, a raffle and auction are some of the planned activities. Proceeds will help defray the cost of his cancer treatments.

A raffle for a nonguided caribou hunt is in progress and will be drawn at the dinner. The cost for the benefit is $15 per person at the door. For more information, call 262-1468.

Class reunion planned

The Kenai Central High School class of 1995 will host its 10-year reunion June 17 through 19. June 17 will include a dinner for the classmates and guests. A picnic and games will be held June 18 at the Kenai Green Strip. It is open to friends, family members and teachers. The registration deadline is April 30.

Community race scheduled

The Soldotna Rotary will host its annual rotary unity point-to-point run July 9.

The 10-mile race begins at 9 a.m. and the 5-kilometer race begins at 9:30 a.m. Bus transportation will be provided to starting lines. Participants are to meet at Soldotna High School one hour before start times. Both races will finish at SoHi.

Race bibs are available only at SoHi prior to race. The cost is $10 for children ages 12 and under, $20 for adults or $50 per family. Day of race registration fees are $15 for children 12 and under and $25 for adults.

The race fee includes a shirt, finisher medals, awards for top three men and women in each category, door prizes and a post-race barbecue. For more information,call Steve Stenga at 262- 1770.
