Alaskan items sought for troops

The city of Soldotna’s Red, White and Blue Program, in conjunction with the Elks, Rotary, VFW, American Legion, Veteran’s Party, Sweeney’s and Trustworthy Hardware are seeking the following donations: cards, letters, canned fished, eye cleaner, Q-tips, baby wipes, foot powder and socks.

Drop off locations are Soldotna City Hall, Redoubt Elementary, Soldotna VFW Hall, Tustumena Smokehouse, Mile 49.8 Cooper Landing, Hawks Games, Fred Meyer, Safeway and Sweeney’s Clothing. Ping pong offered

Free ping pong nights will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Monday, April 24, 27, May 1, 4 and then every Monday and Wednesday thereafter at Redoubt Elementary School on Binkley Street in Soldotna. Tables and equipment will be provided by the Boys and Girls Club and Redoubt Elementary School.

Participants are asked to bring a paddle if they have one available as supplies will depend on the number of people showing up each week.

Boraas to discuss Native history

The Kasilof Historical Association will host a talk on local Native history by anthropologist Alan Boraas at 7 p.m. Thursday at the McLane Center, Mile .5 Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Seniors host steak fundraiser

The Sterling Senior Center will hold a steak night fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the center. Dinner will include steak, baked potato, green beans, salad, rolls and dessert. The cost is $12.50 per person. For more information, call 262-6808.

ABATE hosts biker show

The Kenai Peninsula ABATE will hold its annual motorcycle show Saturday and Sunday at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. All makes are welcome. Entry fee is $10. Trophies will be awarded. For more information, call Bud at 283-2292.

Rowing clinic available

Soldotna Community Schools will hold an introduction to sweep rowing class from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the library at Soldotna Middle School. Alaska Midnight Sun Rowing Association will discuss sweep rowing and sculling for recreation, fitness and competition. The clinic is open to community members ages 14 and up. Prior experience is not necessary. For more information, call 262-6768.

Talent show ready to entertain

The Skyview High School will hold a talent show at 6 p.m. April 19 the school. Solos, duets and ensembles will perform. Student artwork also will be on display.
