Soccer referees sought

High school soccer referees are needed for the upcoming season. Referees are paid from $20 to $50 per game.

Referee clinics will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Boys and Girls Club in Kenai; from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, location to be announced; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, location to be announced. The cost is $75. For more information, call Tony Lewis at 283-3870.

Mycological society to meet

The Kenai Peninsula Mycological Society will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Burdick Enterprises, 35911 Kenai Spur Highway, Suite 9 in Soldotna. The featured speaker will be Ken Gill. Hidden taxes to be discussed

The Friday Dialogue series will discuss "Hidden Taxes" at 7 p.m. today in the commons at Kenai Peninsula College. A community potluck will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Friday Community Dialogues are co-sponsored by The Roundtable: Center for Mediation and Community Dialogues and the KPC Student Union. Its purpose is to bring people in the community together in safe forums for listening, speaking and learning. For more information, call Chris at 262-0367.

Pet trick contest announced

People whose pets do unusual tricks are invited to submit audition tapes between noon and 5 p.m. through Saturday to the Triumvirate Bookstore in the Peninsula Center Mall. Tapes may also be mailed to 10672 Kenai Spur Highway, Suite 112 #174, Kenai AK, 99611. Pet owners' phone numbers and e-mail addresses should also be included.

Soldotna historians' board plans meeting

The Soldotna Historical Society board of directors will conduct its monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Charlotte's Cafe in River City Books in Soldotna. The board meeting is open to the public.

Genealogical research help available

Alzheimer's to be discussed

Alzheimer's disease Pieces of the Puzzle will be the topic of a free conference from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Soldotna Sports Center. Registration will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m.

The conference is sponsored by the Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Seniors and Disability Services, University of Alaska Anchorage, Center for Human Development, Alaska Geriatric Education Center, the Senior Centers from Kenai, Soldotna, Nikiski, Sterling, Homer, Seward, Forget-Me-Not and Frontier Community Services. Ping pong takes a break

Free community ping pong held Mondays at Redoubt Elementary School in Soldotna has been canceled this week. It will resume April 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Players are asked to bring a paddle. For more information, call Ron at 262-7899.

Cameras, photo printers sought

The Soldotna Rotary Club is seeking donations of working digital cameras and photo printers for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District's art program. Equipment may be dropped off at Sweeney's Clothing or Joe Kashi's law office.

Kids reading program continues

The Triumvirate Bookstore Frequent Reader Program continues. Kids can pick out one free book, a reading calendar and reading program rules at the bookstore in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Bookstore hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Each time a reader returns their initialed calendar (weekly or monthly) to the bookstore, they can pick out another free book and get their calendar punched.

The LeeShore Center's community directory of central Kenai Peninsula resources is available for $25 with a three-ring binder or $15 for refill pages only. The directory lists more than 80 pages of information on emergency services, family support agencies, health facilities, senior citizens services and veteran's organizations.
