Kenai Historical Socity meets today

The Kenai Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting today at 1:15 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant. Guest speaker will be Melody Lee Gleichman showing her photography of last summer's moving of the homestead cabins to their new location. The public is invited.

Gardening with cole crops class to be held

A free class on gardening with cole crops presented by Pam Voeller is slated for April 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the college's MAPTS building. Pre-registration is requested by April 12. The class is being offered by the cooperative extension service through the neighbor to neighbor program. For more information, contact the cooperative extension service office at 262-5824.

Coffee with Mayor Porter brewing

Kenai Mayor Pat Porter would like to invite Kenai residents to join her, and City Manager Rick Koch, for coffee on Saturday, April 17 at Kenai City Hall. The coffee pot will be on from 10 a.m. until noon. Bring your concerns, questions and suggestions to discuss. For more information, call 283-8245.

Bed and breakfast meeting slated

The Kenai Peninsula Bed and Breakfast Association will meet April 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kenai Cultural and Visitors Center. This is an important work meeting to bring all members up to speed on the following upcoming events; Summer Solstice Music Festival, State B&B Association Workshop, State B&B Association Board Meeting, Familiarization Tour of KPBBA B&Bs, HOG Rally Breakfast and various communication and advertising mechanisms. Car seat check-ups scheduled

Car seat check-up event or children's safety will be held throughout the area. Children of all ages need special care when riding in motor vehicles. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death and injury to children ages 0-15. Stop in at our event to have a child passenger safety technician check to make sure your child is riding safely in your vehicle.

National Library Week at the Soldotna Public Library coming soon

The Soldotna Public Library is celebrating National Library Week this week by offering patrons amnesty (no fines charged) on any overdue items returned that week, hosting a prize drawing, a story time, a program by Alaska's Writer Laureate, Nancy Lord, and promoting membership in the Friends of the Joyce K. Carver Memorial Library. All events are free!

Pet photos run on the Pets page every Tuesday. They can be color or black and white and may include people. Limit one photo per household. They may be e-mailed to, dropped off at the Kenai office or mailed to the Clarion at P.O. Box 3009, Kenai, 99611. A brief explanation of the photo, the pet's and owner's names, owner's address and phone number must be included.
